  • Feeding Guide

How to adjust feeding amounts to maintain optimal weight.

    • Provide specific feeding instructions for your patient.

    • Daily Feeding Recommendations are only a guide and a place to start.

    • Grams are the most accurate form of measurement; cups are estimated from grams.

    • Monitoring your patient's condition will assure the nutritional recommendation provides the best results.

    • We advise a gradual transition over 5-7 days for any new food. However, for dogs currently eating Prescription Diet g/d or low fat foods (e.g. Prescription Diet i/d Low Fat, i/d Stress, z/d Low Fat Soy, c/d Low Fat), we recommend gradually transitioning to this food over a period of 10-14 days. Be patient and consistent.

    • Reinforce with clients to feed Prescription Diet dry food, canned food, & treats exclusively.

Avoid transitioning to the new food during periods of illness or hospitalization. A food aversion may develop, causing decreased acceptance of the food when the dog is feeling better.
